SANGUEM: The residents of Ambdoipanto ward of Sanguem Municipal Council (SMC) have urged the PWD to construct a retaining wall at the entry and exit point of the footbridge leading to their ward from Bamonsai.
The residents demanded that the side railings which are damaged at many places be repaired immediately.

A local Suryaji Gaonkar informed that since the construction of the bridge some 30 years ago, the authorities have not carried out the repair work. The side railings and the pillars are damaged at many places and need to be repaired, claimed Gaonkar.
Gaonkar informed that there is an immediate need to construct a retaining wall on either side of the bridge. In the absence of the retaining wall there is every possibility of vehicles plunging into the river at the slightest error of judgement on the part of the driver/rider.
On the recent accident at Taripanto-Sanguem, which killed three members of a family on the spot, the villagers fear that similar incidents could occur in future at Ambdoipanto if the authorities fail to construct a retaining wall on either side of the bridge at the earliest.
The villagers called for constructing a new bridge in the locality as the footbridge which was constructed decades ago has turned ‘weak’.
On the footbridge, two vehicles cannot pass at a time as one vehicle has to wait at the other end till the other vehicle crosses the bridge.
