PONDA: The work on the 15 MLD sewage treatment plants (STP) in Ponda commenced in 2016 but even after six years there is no sign of completion and inauguration of the plant.

For the last two years, there have been only assurances from Sewerage Department officials who announced various dates for the plant’s inauguration. Even former PWD minister Deepak Pauskar had announced the completion of the project during his tenure but the auspicious time has not been found yet for the commissioning of the plant.

The work was expected to be completed in 2018. After failing to complete the project in an extended time in December 2021, Power Minister Sudin Dhavalikar in June this year publicly stated that the plant would be operational in two months.

According to officials, the basalt rock formation at final stage for distance of 230 meters had delayed the work. “This involved lot of technical difficulties and caused further delay,” said the official.

Locals have been suffering due to the roads dug out across the town.
