PONDA: Pondaites have demanded the Public Works Department to repair the Ponda roads on an urgent basis. Pondaites are afraid to drive their vehicles on rough roads that have worsened due to various development works with no attention paid to their repairs.
“The work of Sewerage and Infrastructural Development Corporation should not force people to drive on rough roads which are in a dilapidated condition,” the locals said.
Social worker and Congress activist Rajesh Verenkar said, “Despite knowing that Goa receives pre-monsoon showers in the third or fourth week of May, PWD has failed to pay heed to the demands of people of Ponda to repair the roads. The pre-monsoon showers have already hit Goa now due to the effect of the cyclone, and the cosmetic patchwork of roads done at some areas has already washed out. Hence, this will create problems during the rainy season, if they are not repaired.”
Verenkar said that he had written to the CM, PWD and other concerned offices to repair and hot-mix the roads.
“People of Ponda have shown their patience since the Sewerage Corporation had started work of laying pipelines in the town and some parts of Curti-Khandepar panchayat area. However, this corporation has always taken people for granted and has failed to complete the work on time and repair the roads,” Verenkar said.
