PONDA: Ponda residents have given 10-day deadline for roofing of the KTC bus stand on war-footing failing which they will protest in the rain.
Commuters are facing hardships since one year with no roof on KTC bus stand. Ponda locals protested against the lackadaisical approach of the administration and criticised the government for neglecting the completion of KTC bus stand renovation work in Ponda, which is in pathetic condition since last one year.
Goa Forward Party leader Durgadas Kamat, Ponda social worker Viraj Sapre and executive member of People of Ponda Pramod Sawant on Thursday speaking to mediapersons said it was a total failure of the government.
Kamat appreciated O Heraldo for continuous follow up news on the issue.
He said, “The government should complete roofing of KTC bus stand before the onset of monsoon.”
“The government spends crores on events and does not have money to repair the bus stand. The repair work needs just 15 days time but a year has passed, no work has happened. Despite having four ministers from Ponda, they have failed in completing pending repair work of the KTC bus stand,” Kamat said.
Sapre said he has been highlighting this issue since last nine months, but to no avail.
“Roads in Ponda cave in as nobody follows the guidelines. There are ministers from Ponda, but just for name sake. At least one minister should visit the bus stand and see the condition himself. They are elected for the sake of people,” he said.
Sawant said that the condition of roads and the public toilets are going to turn worse with the rains about to set in.
“There are potholes near the KTC bus stand. There are no streetlights in the area. We are unable to understand why ministers can’t hear the people’s voice? Road digging is constantly happening. We have already suffered for eight years due to the incessant digging for laying sewerage lines, gas pipes and now power cabling,” he said.
“Why did not the government start the development work in October, as it would have got ample of time to complete the tasks before monsoon. Roads are being tarred just before the rains, which will get washed away within no time. People are suffering due to the negligence of administration,” Sawant alleged.
