Poor mobile connectivity haunts phone users across State

CARMONA: Despite tall promises of ‘Digital India’ made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the coastal villages namely Carmona, Cavelossim and Benaulim are still facing problem of poor and erratic mobile connectivity.

At the time when India is aiming for faster and more reliable communication through 5G networks, the people of Salcete’s coastal villages complain about poor mobile connectivity with issues ranging from weak fluctuating signal, call drops, one way connection, etc.

“We used to have full signal bar earlier, but now the signal strength has been reduced to a single or a maximum of two bars for all networks. People are using internet calling via WhatsApp, etc. to tide over the crisis. When we contacted the Indus Towers over the issue, we were advised to contact the respective service providers, who remain aloof to the problem with no response. Other villages also seem to have similar problems,” informed Carmona Sarpanch Allwyn Jorge.

“I have appealed to the service providers to solve the issues as people require the mobiles to work especially due to the present COVID-19 pandemic situation,” he said.

But shockingly, it’s not just Salcete residents who face such erratic and poor mobile connectivity problems as there are similar complaints from residents of Pernem, Vasco. Parra, Sangolda, Tivim and Aldona in Bardez Taluka; Ratwaddo, Buticas, Colmorod and Dongrim wards in Navelim, Buinsa and Gotton wards in Cuncolim, Bernabat, St Jose de Areal in Salcete Taluka; Nirankal-Ponda; Caranzalem, Panjim and Porvorim to name a few.
