PORIEM: The Poriem village playground which is barely two decades old, is in a bad shape today with wide cracks making it difficult to play on it.
Maintained by the Sports Authority of Goa, the ground is truly pathetic as in the absence of grass, the rough stones on it make it difficult for players.
It is indeed an irony that despite being represented by very influential persons, this village ground has not seen any maintenance worth its name since it was established 20 years ago.
This playground is used by all three schools run by Bhumika Education Society namely, Bhumika Primary School, Bhumika High School and Bhumika Higher Secondary School and the students very often get injured due to the poor condition of the ground.
Locals are quite upset that despite raising this matter of the sorry condition of the ground at the Gram Sabha, the panchayat has not acted upon their request to get the ground repaired.
They are further angered that the MLA has also not paid any heed to their request, despite they having asked her to repair the ground to avoid injuries to their children.
Pointing out that the ground was built by the panchayat 20 years ago and then handed over to the Sports Authority of Goa, former panchayat member Gurudas Gaonkar demanded that the government immediately make the ground safe for the children’s use.
