PANJIM: Apart from the unloading of coal at two berths, Mormugao Port Authority has now started handling coal from a cargo ship, anchored in the water, alleged activist Xencor Polji.

“We detest the transportation of coal through Goa. This MPA is handling coal as they want,” said activist Xencor Polji.

“They have now started handling coal from cargo vessels. They are dumping the coal from the cargo ship onto the barges,” he added

Polji claimed that MPA is out to completely destroy the livelihoods of the fishermen. “They were handling coal from the berths allocated to JSW and Adani. Now they have resorted to handling coal from the sea,” he said.

Polji alleged that MPA is openly and brazenly handling coal as they wish. “Who has given them permission? Does the Pollution control board know about it? Do they know what is going on at the MPA?” asked Polji.
