Port Town residents demand stern action on haphazard parking

VASCO:  Vasco residents on Saturday demanded strict action against traffic violators from the authorities concerned to bring in discipline on main roads due to haphazard parking.

Despite the Motor Vehicles Act fines increased by the Central government and the traffic police imposing fines on violators as and when possible. However, some drivers from the Port Town are yet to get disciplined.

The unruly parking of two wheelers and four wheelers along main roads in the port town has irked locals.

“Two-wheelers are parked in the areas marked for four- wheelers and vice versa have become a common scene. Those strictly following the rules are suffering. Double parking of two-wheelers is annoying, especially for senior citizens and women, as double parked two-wheelers are locked and cannot be moved. Many have to wait for the other riders to come and move their two-wheelers,” said a rider, who often visits the town for daily chores.

The road stretch between Goa Bagayatdar and Salgaonkar House is reserved for two wheelers parking. However, four wheelers are parked on the road obstructing the free movement of vehicular traffic.

The locals have demanded action and strict vigilance to avoid such violations.
