VASCO: Residents of New Vaddem Housing Colony took out candle march mainly to silently protest against the overall handling of the case of 6-year old Vani Khanapur who died of suspected dengue due to alleged negligence from medical staff of sub district hospital at Chicalim.
The participants then paid their respects to the deceased Khanapur by garlanding her photograph near the railway flyover at New Vaddem.
It may be recalled that Vani Khanapur was admitted to Chicalim sub district hospital due to fever. Her situation worsened during the midnight which required immediate attention. However due to negligence shown by the medical staff, her health deteriorated further. She was then shifted to Goa Medical College and Hospital but unfortunately breathed her last there. Her parents had held a duty doctor at Chicalim hospital and other staff responsible for their daughter’s death. They had then filed a complaint at Vasco police station but no action has been taken so far. Locals expressed concern over the delay in investigation.
