VASCO: The port officers and employees visited Vasco vegetable market and interacted with the people and urged them to use cloth bags and discard plastic bags. They briefly explained the harmful effects of plastics on human life as well as the environment.
As a goodwill gesture and to convey their serious concern to the general public to stop the use of ‘single use plastics’, the port officers distributed nearly 100 cloth marketing bags to the citizens. The plastic bags carried by the people for marketing were surrendered to volunteers creating awareness.
The campaign received an encouraging response not only from the general public present at the vegetable market, but from the vegetable vendors, too. By and large, the citizens appreciated the efforts of the port management in creating awareness and distributing the cloth marketing bags to the citizens and they enthusiastically supported the initiative. “The port will carry out more such campaign in the markets places in future and distribute more cloth bags to the general public,” a press release issued by MPT said.
Meanwhile, an awareness rally in the residential area of Sada, Mormugao by the officers, staff and employees of the port, accompanied. The students of the Deepvihar Secondary School also participated in the rally. The rally was flagged off by Sandesh Mesta MMC Ward Councillor.
