PANJIM: Responding to speculation that he was unhappy with the decision of the Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to take away the Law and Judiciary portfolio from him, Power Minister Nilesh Cabral said he has nothing to say and that portfolio distribution is the CMs’ prerogative.
“It is the Chief Minister’s prerogative to decide on portfolio distribution. Tomorrow, if he desires so, he can even take away the power portfolio,” said Cabral, while responding to a query from mediapersons.
He, however, said he had done a lot of good work in the Law and Judiciary Department.
“I have brought out changes in name registration of married women. I have cleared the file for name change of a woman after marriage. It would be her decision either to keep her maiden name or change it during registration,” he said. He added that this would be applicable for all communities – Hindu, Muslim and Catholics. “A notification in this regard is expected soon,” he said.
Cabral further added that the new Law Minister Vishwajit Rane, will do a good job and would continue to follow up on the core issues.
