According to the information, the 25-metre long portion of the compound wall came down crashing after heavy rains. However, there is no possibility of garbage sliding down the hill.
According to information, a few locals informed the workers at the plant about the incident. After receiving information, MMC officials swung into action and commenced the work of clearing the debris.
“After receiving the information, I along with the MMC chairperson Deepak Naik inspected the site and directed the municipal engineers to prepare an estimate not only for the collapsed portion but for another 60 odd metres of the wall which has become weak and might collapse anytime. The work is expected to begin soon as estimates have been sent for approval,” informed MMC CO Deepali Naik.
This is the fourth time in last one year that the compound wall of the garbage plant has collapsed.
On two occasions, there were reports of garbage sliding down the hill.
