Ports Minister holds inspection, directs ASI to complete roof work on priority

Ports Minister Michael Lobo has directed the officials of the Archeological Survey of India that the work of the roof of Basilica should be a priority as there is a possibility of sudden rains in the near  future.

Lobo on Thursday inspected the premises, which have been affected by the sudden downpour that occurred recently, given that the roof of the iconic building has been kept open for repairs.

Rector of Basilica Fr Patricio Fernandes was also present during the visit.

“During the inspection it was noticed that for the last two days sudden rains had fallen. With the roof of the Holy place open for repairs the water had gushed into the building,” Lobo said.

The minister added that while the work for repairs was awarded in the year 2018, due to the negligence of the contractor, the work had recently started.
