Portuguese-era cross drain at Kavlem choked with mud, plastic, debris

Locals fear the road may collapse any moment due to accumulation of water

PONDA: Kavlem and Talaulim residents have complained that following heavy rains, a Portuguese-era cross drain has been choked with mud, plastic and debris at Paunwada, Kavlem, which poses a risk to school students and commuters. They have also raised apprehensions that the road could collapse any moment due to accumulation of water.

Commuters travelling on Kavlem-Talaulim- Durbhat route have  expressed concern over choked cross drain at Ward 4 of Paunwada Kavlem and have demanded that authorities concerned clear the choked drain to ensure the safety of commuters.

The locals claimed that they had already reported the issue to the Public Works Department (PWD) and Water Resources Department (WRD) as the drain below the main road is obstructed, preventing the flow of rainwater from the nullah.

The locals further complained that some outsiders are also dumping garbage leading to choking of nullah and  water accumulation.
