PANJIM: Showing concern over extortion after apprehending a gang of extortionists, Porvorim police have decided to hold the special drive against this in their jurisdiction.
Porvorim Police Inspector Jivba Dalvi said they will list all anti-social elements. “We have been receiving calls of petty fights and demands of money. This has to be curbed now before it can develop into major gangs,” Dalvi said.
Recently there were two extortion cases booked by Porvorim police in which four accused have been apprehended.
Dalvi said the police have already initiated the process of opening a chargesheet against all four so that they can be monitored regularly. “We will be forming a team under one PSI who will create awareness amongst all business establishments in Porvorim area and asking them not to fall prey to any kind of threats,” Dalvi said.
He said that special priority and attention will be given to calls received of extortion and spot visits will be done by the PSI. “We will be giving all the phone numbers right from the Inspector, Sub Inspector and Police Station land line numbers to all the businessmen in Porvorim area, so that they will feel secure while operating their businesses,” Dalvi said.
History sheeter Zenito Cardozo is presently daily reporting to the Porvorim Police in one case.
Dalvi said a close watch will be maintained on Cardozo’s activities in Porvorim, and that a warning has been issued to him.
