PORVORIM: Shop owners from the old Porvorim market are waiting for their slots in the new market complex for over a year after the project’s inauguration.

The project comes under the jurisdiction of the Goa Housing Board and the then chairman Subhash Shirodkar in his speech at the inauguration ceremony said that the shop owners from the old market will be accommodated in the new building.

The project was inaugurated last year on 16th August and the distribution of slots to the old shopkeepers in the new space is still not done. The traders said that they have not been allocated the space nor have they been informed about anything. There were 42 shops in the old market but only 18 shopkeepers have been considered for the slots in the new complex as some of the owners had given their shops for rent.

There are other establishments in Porvorim which are doing very well and locals have expressed suspicion over whether the distribution of slots is purposely delayed for them to be benefitted.
