MAPUSA: Porvorim independent MLA Rohan Khaunte on Thursday requested the North Superintendent of Police for immediate action in the case of man who was set ablaze, at Porvorim.
Porvorim MLA along with the sarpanchas, panchas, ZP members and residents of Porvorim Constituency met SP North Utkrisht Prasoon requesting immediate action and thorough investigation in the case of man who was set ablaze at Porvorim and later succumbed to burn injuries while undergoing treatment at Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim.
“This incident of setting a person ablaze is highly condemnable. After this incident people of Porvorim are scared. We are fully cooperating with the police in investigating the case. However, the way this incident has occurred, this is the first incident in Goa that too in Porvorim. Earlier, it was Walke murder at Margao, attack on a house at St Cruz, murder at Mapusa and now this Porvorim murder. Incidents are happening in all sides and to stop this we need to know what steps the police have taken,” Khaunte said.
“We have demanded for proper action plan and people involved in this case to be booked. SP North informed that the investigation in this case is going on and I am sure he will get concrete solution. Breakthrough in this case should set an example that such incident should not occur anymore in the State. We have asked for immediate action and SP North has promised to solve the case as soon as possible,” he added.
“I am not hopeful on the Chief Minister but hopeful on Superintendent of Police because the police are doing their job. I don’t believe people who twist and turn their statements and do nothing. Law and order situation across Goa is a major issue and immediate action needs to be taken,” Khaunte added.
Khaute also informed that several theft incidents have occurred when few families were quarantined due to COVID and houses were locked. I have also highlighted this issue before the SP North.
