Positivity rate still highest in country

New cases show a decline; 58 more deaths reported

PANJIM: Goa’s positivity rate stood at 35.16 per cent on Saturday as the coastal State continues to record the highest positivity rate in the country for the third consecutive week.

A report released by Union Health Ministry shows that Goa, along with Puducherry, has the highest positivity rate.

From May 8 to May 14, Goa’s positivity rate was recorded at 42 per cent while Puducherry (Union Territory) is 42.3 per cent. 

The ministry’s report also mentions that North Goa District is amongst 15 districts in the country showing the highest cases in last two weeks.

On Saturday, the daily positivity rate was recorded at 35.16 per cent, a drop from 36.27 per cent recorded the previous day. However, the daily deaths continue to haunt the State as the last 24 hours saw 58 deaths, of whom 33 died in Goa Medical College and Hospital, 18 in South Goa District Hospital, three in North Goa District Hospital, three in a private hospital in South Goa and one in a North Goa private hospital. 

As per the health bulletin issued by the Directorate of Health Services, the State’s recovery rate of COVID patients is also showing a steady improvement as it stood at 75.60 per cent on Saturday.

Of the 5571 tests conducted in the last 24 hours, 1957 tested positive for COVID-19, while 3,512 were also declared recovered. With this, the State’s active case tally stood at 30,774. 

As on evening of Saturday, vacant COVID oxygen beds were 20. The government has also released the helpline number 0832-2494545 for assistance in this regard.
