Post inspection, mamlatdars initiate action against illegalities

Mapusa: While conducting an assessment of the losses incurred by the farmers and citizens due to the flooding in the area the joint mamlatdar noticed that fresh sand was extracted and kept along the coast of Akhada at St. Estevam on Tuesday evening.
Accordingly the officials from Captain of Ports, Department of Mines and Geology and Old Goa Police from Tiswadi taluka were called to the site to raid the place.
On seeing the illegally extracted sand, both the joint mamlatdars decided to initiate action against unknown persons who are extracting sand mainly in the night.
During the inspection boats were found along the coast of Akhada along with sand dumped on the road side.
When Herald contacted the Joint Mamlatdar, Dattaraj  Dessai, he confirmed that illegally extracted sand was spotted at St. Estevam.
“Four stacks of sand were taken into custody and given to the Mines Department. They will further inform the PWD who will do the needful,” he said.
The government officials who raided the place assured the locals of action against the evasive culprits involved in the illegal sand extraction.
