Postpone board exams: Class X, XI students, NSUI members meet GBSHSE Chairman

mapusa: Few students of Class X and XII along with two members of the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) gathered outside the Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (GBSHSE) in Porvorim.

They demanded that the government postpones the scheduled board exams. In that regard, the students met the GBSHE Chairman and put forth their views and reasoned that the government shouldn’t be taking any risk given the prevailing pandemic.

They opined that a number of students and parents will be at and around the exam centre, which will violate the social distancing norms.

“Thousands of people are going to come out to answer the exams and what happens if even one person is a carrier of the virus. What about social distancing in buses and outside the exams centres?”, they added.

They feared wearing masks for two and a half hours will make it difficult for the students to answer the papers.

The students demanded that the government makes clear their entire plan of action with respect to how the exams will be conducted. They also demanded to know what assurance the Chief Minister is giving that none of the students, parents or teachers will be infected with the virus.

“The students are scared for their lives and do not want to take any risk” a student added.

NSUI members also stated that they have asked for an appointment with the Governor.
