PONDA: Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party leader and Marcaim MLA Ramkrishna Sudin Dhavalikar on Friday urged the President of India, Central government and Election Commission of India not to hold any elections for the next two years in the country including the Goa State 2022 Assembly elections.
Five States will be going for the Assembly elections in 2022.
“In order to revive the economy, the elections should be set aside for the next two years and the proposed elections could be held in 2024. In order to control the COVID pandemic and break the chain, there should not be any elections as for now,” Dhavalikar said.
He said, “The government should focus on revival of economy that has been collapsed for the next two years. I can’t imagine what would be the economic situation in the country if measures for revival of economy are not taken.”
Speaking over the elections held in various States recently, Dhavalikar said that the COVID has already spread and if we hold more elections it would invite worst situation.
“The present Goa Assembly tenure should be either extended or impose the President Rule,” he opined.
