MARGAO: You can write about them and photograph them and send the pictures to the PWD Minister, but the potholes remain ignored. But, make a song and dance about them, and they get patched up within hours.
That’s what happened when Super Mom Cecille Lee Rodrigues decided that she had had enough of the craters on the road, and shot a video singing and dancing to the tune of the Chris Perry-Lorna hit Bebdo. But instead of calling out ‘Yo baile yo’, she sang, ‘Yo sorkar yo’. And the ‘sorkar’ did come to patch up the roads.
Rodrigues said the idea behind the video originated from her experience. “On my birthday I had to spend Rs 15,000 to replace the shock absorbers of my car which got worn out because of bad roads,” she said, adding that she had to face the agony of bad roads and traffic jams from Panjim to Margao daily for over two weeks.
The video has become an instant hit amongst the people, thanks to Rodrigues, Amrit Vatsa and their enthusiastic team.
The video got a viral curtain raiser a day before it was uploaded as some bus passengers in Panjim shot the video being made and posted it on social media which created a buzz. By late Tuesday evening the music video had touched 10,000 views on Youtube and a whopping 90,000 views on Facebook and was also being forwarded on whatsapp.
Rodrigues made the video with a team of 10, including actors and artistes. She said the video was planned on Sunday and edited and published within less than a week.
She said that she wanted to make something different and it has worked. “I have got a call from a friend informing me that the road at which we shot, below the Mandovi bridge, was patched, which is a success, and I can say my video has worked,” Rodrigues said.
She also mentioned of an unknown person giving her a thumbs up while passing by and that is the best compliment she received after the video went viral.
