MAPUSA: Some villagers from Moira claimed that they did not have power supply for over 18-24 hours after parts of Bardez and other talukas witnessed strong winds and heavy rains that caused damage and destruction since Thursday afternoon.
Many trees were uprooted and roads were blocked due to the rain and strong winds that erratically lashed certain areas of the State.
The personnel from the Mapusa Fire Department were on their toes as they had to respond to over 45 emergency calls from Thursday afternoon. There were emergencies such as falling of trees on the roads, houses and electrical wires reported to them. The villages that were affected due to the strong winds and heavy rains were Bastora, Moira and Carona.
An official from the Fire Department informed that they could not attend to all the calls received on Thursday and around 12 were pending which had to be attended on Friday.
On Thursday evening, the personnel from the Fire Department returned to the fire station at 8.30 pm and went back on the fields the next day to attend to the pending calls.
The Assistant Electrical Engineer in-charge for Moira area, Aroskar told Herald that several trees were uprooted and fallen on electrical wires in the village due to which it took time to restore power in certain parts of Moira.
Some parts of Moira did not have electricity for nine hours while the other places did not have power for close to 24 hours.
