Amidst preparations for the national games last October, efforts were underway to enhance infrastructure around Nehru Stadium, including illuminating the Margao ring road stretch from the Comba subway to the Old Market road. The Power department worked carefully to install illumination poles along this stretch before the games’ inauguration by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Despite the contractor’s completion of installing poles and lamps along the Comba stretch of the ring road, the awaited sanction from higher authorities in the department has stalled the illumination of this crucial roadway. The contractor had undertaken the project based on a favourable bid with the assurance of necessary approvals, but to date, the awaited authorization has not been granted.
Local power officials confirmed ongoing efforts to obtain the necessary approvals for the project’s commissioning, but the delay persists without clear reasons from departmental higher-ups.
Two-wheeler riders and other road users, eagerly anticipating a well-lit ring road for increased safety, have expressed their disappointment over the delay in obtaining clearance from the Power department. The installation of poles and lamps raised hopes for improved road visibility, especially for a stretch previously lacking in electricity infrastructure.
