Power Dept removes overhead wires from Curchorem market

CURCHOREM: The Electricity Department on Wednesday started removing the old overhead wires from the Curchorem market area since the underground work of laying power cables for low and high tension lines including the streetlights has been completed.

According to the local MLA and Power Minister Nilesh Cabral, the first phase of underground cabling, which started in 2019 after tendering it an estimated cost of Rs 24 crore, has been completed. The same has started to function in the market area and hence the existing old cables are being removed. 

“All the wires including the poles will be removed from wherever underground cabling work has been done under first phase and soon under the second phase, underground cabling will be done in remaining areas of Curchorem-Cacora Municipal Council (CCMC) for which the work order has already been issued,” Cabral added.

“Under the first phase, underground cabling of low and high tension lines and streetlights has been done in Khandiwada, Shirford and Khamamoll wards of CCMC besides the market area. Overhead high tension lines will be removed from the entire Curchorem constituency while low tension cables will be removed from remaining few areas of CCMC. An amount of Rs 91 crore has been spent on the underground cabling to provide uninterrupted power supply,” he said. 

“New Curchorem Primary Health Centre building with maximum medical facilities is in completion stage and soon it will cater to the medical emergencies of Curchorem residents and those residing in neighbouring areas. The new administrative building for CCMC is also in the final stage of completion and I will try my level best to complete the remaining work of constructing the open hall of Ravindra Bhavan besides the sports complex at the earliest,” Cabral said.
