Power depts suspends asst lineman for lapses in Siolim electrocution case

PANJIM: The Electricity Department suspended assistant lineman/wireman Krishna Naik for lapses in the death of lineman Krishna Pawar at Siolim last week.

In a tragic incident reported on November 23, Pawar (38) hailing from Morjim, Pernem was electrocuted while on duty. Pawar along with Naik had gone to Siolim to carry out some maintenance work and Pawar had climbed the pole when he got electrocuted.  

Both, Pawar and Naik were attached to the sub-division III, works division XVII of Electricity Department. The maintenance work was undertaken under the supervision of Krishna Naik.  

Following the mishap, the government had asked the electricity chief engineer Stephen Fernandes to conduct an inquiry to find out lapses in the accident and to fix responsibility. The maintenance work was undertaken under the supervision of Krishna Naik, assistant lineman/ wireman.  

Meanwhile, the investigation against the junior engineer is on even as the family of the deceased had alleged negligence on the part of linesman and junior engineer in-charge of the area. Power Minister Ramakrishna ‘Sudin’ Dhavalikar on Wednesday said that the compensation will be released to the family soon.
