There was tension in Baina after power failed for six hours as ‘underground’ cables caught fire. The 33 KVA underground cables were exposed in the open. The fire was first seen noticed by locals at Tariwada-Baina at about 6.30 pm. The fire station and police were alerted and a fire tender extinguished the fire. Residents demanded that an inquiry be made into why underground cables were left exposed by the Contractor and that police should file a case against those who set the fire. Today too, parts of the port were without power, including govt offices.
On account of the fire, the power supply was disrupted to entire Baina and its surrounding areas. While the electricity department was quick to restore power supply to areas in Bogda through alternative options, Baina continued to be without power supply till Thursday midnight. A large number of people confronted the electricity staff over the underground cables which were lying in the open without any protection.
