SERAULIM: Issues of frequent power failures, tarring of bad roads, the ongoing under pass works, prevention of vector borne diseases such as malaria and dengue, increase of house tax and trade tax after assessment dominated the Seraulim gram sabha on Sunday.
Seraulim sarpanch Leslie Dourado said that the gram sabha unanimously demanded Goa Bhumiputra Adhikarini Bill 2021 be immediately scrapped.
A villager Joaquim Dias moved a proposal to revise the present house tax by either increasing or lowering the present tariffs after assessment was discussed but it was decided to maintain status quo due to the present COVID-19 pandemic. Similarly, another proposal to increase the trade licences tax for those fish vendors who are practicing illegal business on the Western Bypass was deliberated.
“Seraulim Village Panchayat has apparently written to the South Goa Collector to remove illegal fish vendors. Gram sabha also discussed on corrections that to be done to the voters list regarding their house numbers which were wrongly entered twice,” he said.
The gram sabha members also raised the issue of frequent power failures and requested underground cabling and tarring of roads. The gram sabha members inquired about underpass completion deadline and if it was being done by acquisition of the land. The concerned engineer said that the works were being undertaken upon land acquisition and would be completed by January 2022. Gram sabha requested to complete the work as early as possible as it is causing inconvenience to Seraulim villagers.
A gram sabha member also drew towards mosquito menace and suggested fogging as a preventive measure. But as fogging is not permitted, it was decided to use other methods keep away mosquitoes. Administrative approval was granted to undertake development works for 2021-22. All seven panchayat members attended the gram sabha.
