MARGAO: The problem related to power supply and breakdown of baling machines at Sonsoddo garbage dump yard has resulted in a major halt in baling process of the waste generated from commercial capital for the last many days. However, Margao Municipality is expecting that the work will resume by next two days.
Sources said the baling machines at Sonsoddo yard have been broken down for the last many days, leading to waste being lying all over the place without any process. Adding to that no place inside the plant to dump more waste has created more tensions to the civic body.
“Baling of plastic dump at the Sonsoddo yard came to a complete halt after more than 10 days, as the baling machine broke down. The Bailing machine stopped functioning, because of a technical snag,” said the source.
It must be noted that nearly 50 tons of waste is being generated in the commercial city of Margao, where only eight to ten tons of garbage is being treated at the site. But the breakdown of baling machines has resulted in major halt to the process, as there is no space left to dump more waste. There are reports that MMC trucks were forced to unload the waste as per the availability of the space. Now, plastic baling work at the waste dumping site has come to a standstill.
When contacted, Agnelo Fernandes, Chief Officer MMC said that he is expecting that the baling of waste at Sonsoddo will resume by next one or two days.
“Yes, there was a problem with regard to the baling machines at the site, besides some problem of electricity. MMC was trying hard to resolve the issues for the last few days,” he said.
