PANJIM: The Aam Aadmi Party on Thursday revealed that Power Minister Nilesh Cabral has once again attempted to misguide the people of Goa over the issue of high electricity bills charges.
The AAP mentioned that Nilesh had said that the electricity bills charges are lesser in the State as compared to New Delhi at a press conference few days ago.
To this statement, AAP Spokesperson Surel Tilve responded, “In the first place electricity is free in New Delhi for those who consume up to 200 units of power supply while in the State people are charged upto 2.25 per unit for the same amount of consumption. The fact is that those consuming up to 200 units per month are not billed at all and hence do not pay any amount.”
Pointing out that in New Delhi those consuming 400 units of power are paying Rs 1,075 while in the State those consuming 400 units have to pay Rs 1,217, Tilve said what matters is the amount people have to pay and not the tariff that Nilesh is referring to.
“In Goa given the fact that approximately 70 per cent consumers use between 69 and 361 units, replicating New Delhi model in electricity bills will benefits lakhs of people and this is one of the things that we had asked the Power Minister to study in New Delhi,” said Tilve.
He said that Nilesh has focussed on only one aspect while ignoring the other issues raised by AAP including tapping renewable energy sources.
