VALPOI: Residents of Ansolem, Sattari were left shell-shocked after a powerful gelatin blast in a cashew farm shattered their houses on late Monday evening.
According to the eyewitnesses, the blast was so powerful that most houses and their windows along with compound walls were damaged.
The panicked residents stated that the impact of the explosion was felt a few kilometres away from the cashed farm. Asbestos roofsheets too were damaged even some ironsheet roofs developed cracks.
According to the Valpoi Police, the property, where the blast took place, has been barricaded and its owner Nasir Hussain Jamadar has been detained for interrogation.
Meanwhile, the locals demanded compensation for the damage caused to their properties due to the blast and demanded stringent action against the culprits indulging in the illegal activities in the village.
Poriem MLA Deviya Rane said that an FIR will be filed under the Explosives Substances Act and a thorough investigation would be conducted.
Taking to her microblogging site X (formerly Twitter), Deviya said, “’This is to inform the people that we have received reports of a blast at Ansolem in Bhironda Panchayat, no casualties reported at the site. An FIR will be filed under the Explosives Substance Act, and a thorough investigation is underway. Stringent action will be taken once the investigation is concluded.”
