PANJIM: The Goa State Public Prosecutor has alleged major discrepancies in the foreign cigarette case investigations, going to an extent of even alleging that honest officer “Mahesh Desai” was framed in a fake case,
“Officers in Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) in Goa and Mumbai, in their attempt to malign the image of an honest officer have resorted to framing frivolous charges equivalent to the fake encounters of the past years,” Goa State Special Public Prosecutor G D Kirtani said here.
“The recent case where Assistant Commissioner of CGST Mahesh Desai has been dragged  in a case with no legal bearings goes to show the extent officers from one department try to disrobe others and try to get away, exposing a split in the functioning of the Customs Department ,” Kirtani alleged.
To enumerate his case, Kirtani charged that Rajesh Dabas, working in the DRI Goa was indicted in a case conducted by CBI. Whilst working as Intelligence Officer of Air Intelligence Unit of Goa, he was found guilty in a case and was imposed a major penalty.
However, despite the imposition of penalty, Rajesh Dabas continued misusing his position. “I have passengers, who have approached me and are ready to give their deposition before a magistrate claiming that Rajesh Dabas helped them smuggle foreign currency out of India and smuggle gold bars on their return when he was Superintendent of Customs at Dabolim Airport,” Kirtani claimed.
