Canacona celebrates Yoga Day across schools, govt depts
CANACONA: As part of the International Yoga day celebrations, Yoga sessions were held at government schools and other government departments across Canacona. Canacona Health Center conducted yoga sessions for participants. The event was inaugurated by Sagun Velip, DY Collector and Chief Officer of Canacona Municipality, Nitu Desai, CMC Chairperson, Dr Vandana Desai, Health Officer of CHC, doctors, councillors and others.
Canacona Police Station also organised a yoga session for the staff. “Yoga helps in maintaining the balance of both mind and body,” said Canacona Police Inspector Sudesh Narvekar.
Yoga should be passed on to the next generation: Khaunte
PORVORIM: On the occasion of International Yoga Day, Socorro Village Panchayat and Porvorim Visionaries organised a programme at the panchayat hall.
“Through yoga, one can attain better health and freshness mentally as well as spiritually. Yoga should be taken up by everyone. We should also ensure that it is followed by the next generation so that they are fit and healthy. Yoga connects people from across various countries. Irrespective of caste and creed people have been coming together through yoga,” said Porvorim MLA and Revenue Minister Rohan Khaunte

PANJIM: On International Yoga Day, Governor Mridula Sinha asked the public to practice Yoga throughout the year rather than restricting it to one day. Ministers, politicians, bureaucrats and students joined the celebrations held in different parts of the State. The Governor, who performed Yoga at Raj Bhavan said, that every individual should make time for practising Yoga daily.
Directorate of Health Services in association with Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs and Directorate of Education organised the State Level function at Taleigao Community Hall. Health Minister Vishwajit Rane, senior bureaucrats and 280 students from six schools, performed yogasanas.
Rane shared the view expressed by the Governor to practise Yoga daily in his address to the gathering.
Elsewhere, a four-day Yoga training programme has been organised by Goa Legislative Assembly, conducted by renowned Yoga instructor Ambika Yog Kutir. Speaker Rajesh Patnekar was present at the inaugural event.
MPT celebrates Yoga Day with theme ‘Yoga for Heart’
VASCO: The International Yoga Day was celebrated at the Officers’ Club of Mormugao Port Trust (MPT). The function was organised, by MPT’s Medical Department under the guidance of Chief Medical Officer Dr Nimish Pillai, who in his welcome address, stressed upon the significance and importance of Yoga in daily life.
The occasion was graced with the presence of Dr E Ramesh Kumar, IAS, Chairman MPT, GP Rai, Dy Chairman, Vijaya Dat Kagita, IOFS, Chief Vigilance Officer, Heads of Depts, officers, employees and staff.
The function began with the lighting of the lamp by the dignitaries and recitation of slokas by Suvidha Mahabal.
Dr Reshma Bale, Ayurvedic Physician, MPT Hospital, along with the Yoga Guru Radhik Nair who conducted the asanas session for all the participants explained the health benefits of each and every asana and the importance of practising it on a regular basis.
CM participates in yoga day event in national capital
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant participated in the International Yoga Day function, which was held in New Delhi, along with several other leaders of the country. He said Goa government is committed to promoting Yoga in every sphere of life. “Irrespective of caste, creed or religion, Yoga will be promoted in the State to keep citizens healthy. The Government will initiate all the necessary steps to make Yoga a part of everyday life,” said Sawant, in a message to Goans at the end of the function.
Goa Shipyard dedicates Yoga Day to women employees
VASCO: Goa Shipyard Ltd celebrated the International Yoga Day at its Indoor Sports Complex.
The event was inaugurated by Cmde BB Nagpal, Chairman & Managing Director. The celebrations continued throughout the day with a special session themed “Yoga for a perfect work-life balance” being dedicated exclusively to its women employees, from all sections.
