PORVORIM: Former CM Pratapsing Rane urged the govt to take over the rights of over 4,000-odd acres of ‘Evacuee land’ belonging to Goan origin, which is been looked after by the Custodian of Evacuee Property since 1964.
CM Sawant said that under Goa (Abolition of Proprietorship, Titles and Grants of Lands) Act 2014 that came into force on August 15, 2014, the land declared as “Evacuee Property” under the Goa Daman and Diu Administration of Evacuee Act, 1964, and presently vested in the Custodian of evacuee property stand abolished, extinguished and permanently cancelled and all such rights, title and interest stand transferred to and vested in the govt.
On the Mayem evacuee property issue, CM said that 1462 applications have been received by the Collector (North) for grant of Sanads under the Goa (Abolition of Proprietorship, Titles and Grants of Lands) Act 2014.
He added that the verification process is underway for 1370 applications, while 78 applicants have been granted provisional Sanads.
