MARGAO: The Benaulim MLA, Churchill Alemao, has defended Navelim MLA Luizinho Faleiro over the ZP Navelim election.
Churchill supported the independent candidate Edwin Cipru Cardozo who won the election for the third time defeating Congress candidate Adv Pratima Coutinho. Churchill said, “Because of Luizinho Faleiro the deposit of Pratima was saved in the Navelim Zilla Panchayat election.”
After losing the Navelim Zilla Panchayat election Adv Pratima said that Churchill Alemao has made a backdoor entry into the Navelim Constituency and called him the B-Team of the BJP.
Countering the allegations of Pratima, Churchill said, “Pratima is not the custodian of Navelim and I don’t need the permission of Pratima to go to Navelim.”
Churchill said that Cipru in Navelim has done a lot of development and said that just by selling onions and protesting against the LPG price rise the people don’t get votes.
On Monday, Pratima had blamed the Congress leader and Navelim MLA Luizinho Faleiro for her defeat in his constituency.
Cipru polled 2, 895 votes while Pratima Coutinho got 2, 523 and was closely followed by Aam Aadmi Party candidate Matilda D’Silva who fetched 2,428 votes.
While commenting on the victory of Yuri Alemao supported Panel in the Cuncolim Municipal Council Election, Churchill said that the win is credited to Yuri himself and not Congress.
