PONDA: Amid the water diversion dispute, the members of the Progressive River Authority for Water and Harmony (PRAWAH) conducted a joint inspection along with Goa officials of the Opa Water Treatment Plant on Opa-Khandepar river which is a Mhadei (Dudhsagar river) tributary flowing from Karnataka towards Dharbandora and Ponda Taluka.
The team of officials also inspected Ganjem bandhara at Usgao which s based on another tributary of Mhadei entering Goa from Sattari taluka.
The officials later visited Amona to inspect the Mhadei river basin and to conduct a site inspection of Cumbarjua canal.
The panel comprising of Chairperson P M Scott, Virendra Sharma, Ashokkumar V, Manoj Tiwari, N K Mangalik and Ashok Kumar were accompanied by WRD officials from Goa. The officials however refused to divulge any details to the media stating that they were yet to carry out with more site inspections.
The Goa leg of inspection is likely to be conducted across all tributaries of the river and augmentation projects that would be affected if the neighbouring state of Karnataka conducts damns.
