PORVORIM: The State government on Monday informed the Legislative Assembly that pre-construction work of the International Airport at Mopa has commenced and that the project is expected to be completed by 2020.
In a written reply tabled on the Floor of the House, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar said that GMR-Goa International Airport Limited (GGIAL) has already started pre-construction work and as per the Concession Agreement GGIAL has to complete construction by May 2020.
“As per Concession Agreement the estimated cost of Phase I of the project is Rs 3100 crore. However, as per financial close documents of GMR Goa International Airport Limited estimated cost of Phase I of the project is Rs 1900 crore,” he said.
The chief minister was replying to the question tabled by Congress MLAs Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco and Dayanand Sopte.
Parrikar said that the project being a Public Private Partnership (PPP) undertaking, the government is not paying any amount to the contractor. “The pre-construction activities of the project are in progress,” he stated.
