Pre-monsoon works delayed due to rift between Curchorem-Cacora councillors

QUEPEM: The newly formed Curchorem-Cacora Municipal Council, which is hit by internal politics, is now affecting the maintenance, cleaning, repair works and development of Curchorem municipal’s jurisdiction areas. 

After the municipal elections, works that demanded priority are now hanging in balance but due to rift on forming the new council.

When new council is formed there were various committee appointed to do various work for development and betterment of the municipality.

A local of Curchorem municipality, Ali Sheik said, “Delaying the work again and again hit badly in Curchorem-Cacora municipality area and there is also a major concern about monsoon arrival and if the required work is not completed, the area will get flooded, drainage blocked, roads will be unsafe,” he said. 

Pushkal Sawant, president of the congress block committee Curchorem, said people elected the council to do developmental work and take responsibility of wards as a responsible citizen. It is duty of every councillor that to act according to the locals’ requirements and not to do what they want, said Sawant. He also appealed the councillor to be responsible authority and citizen of their ward. 

Rocha Pereira, president of the market association said, “The work of road which is pending in market area will be done before monsoon as announced by PWD minister Deepak Pauskar and I also asked the electricity department Curchorem to clear the footpath and road where wire cable and electric poles were left abandon for last five to six days turning it to be very dangerous for the market and the roads.”
