PANJIM: After facing an initial backlash for not filling pending vacancies spanning over two and half years, the BJP-led coalition government has advertised around 1,000 posts in less than one month.
The development comes at a time when the State is gearing up for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, while by-elections at Mandrem and Shiroda constituencies, are also expected to be announced anytime soon.
Several thousand government job aspirants are queuing up at departments, which have advertised for posts, to submit their applications. Among many government departments that had so far advertised vacancies under various categories, the South and North Collectorates constitute the highest comprising of 147 and 133 posts for talathi, LDC, stenographer, aval karkun and multi tasking staff.
“After facing flak for lack of development, the government is trying to tap in employment opportunities for Goans to compensate for the absence of Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar. Huge job opportunities are now in public domain and thousands of applicants have applied in these departments so far,” a government official, overseeing the creation of posts, told Herald.
The bureaucrat explained that once the code of conduct is enforced, the entire process will be kept in abeyance. Details with Herald reveal that the deadline for submission of applications in the other departments does not extend beyond the month of February.
The tentative list of posts advertised are around 130 in the Directorate of Higher Education, 98 in the Department of Women & Child Development, 35-odd in the Department of handicrafts, Textile & Coir, around 28 vacancies in Tribal Welfare and many others.
