MARGAO: With the preliminary inspection report confirming discharge of effluents into the abandoned stone quarry at the Cuncolim Industrial Estate, the Goa State Pollution Control Board has convened separate meetings with fish processing and steel units operating in the estate later this week.
GSPCB Chairman Jose Manuel Noronha said the Board would discuss threadbare all pollution aspects with owners of both fish processing units and steel units.
The decision to convene the urgent meeting comes against the backdrop of the rampant discharge of effluents into an abandoned stone quarry inside the industrial estate. Sources in the know said the Board has taken serious note of the effluents from the units finding its way into the abandoned quarry. The Board, sources said, wants to convey a message loud and clear that henceforth anyone contributing to pollution in the estate would not be spared.
