MARGAO: Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on Monday directed the engineers to prepare estimates for replacing the over three-decade-old broken sewage pipeline at Comba, which has resulted in sewage discharge in the locality.
The meeting was chaired by the Chief Minister in his cabin where in the Comba residents and the Sewage Department Engineers were present.
It may be recalled that in January, Comba residents had called on the CM to inspect the site. The people had informed him on the said pipeline. The sewage section engineers too had informed that the life span of the said sewage line had expired.
Sharmad Raiturkar representing Comba residents said, “The authorities earlier were evasive in getting the pipeline replaced. They had said let’s wait for the North Main Line to be replaced and see if the problem gets solved. We insisted on changing the line and soon the Chief Minister too agreed and directed the engineers to prepare estimates for the same”.
The buildings in Comba have been accused of releasing sewage into drains, which gets accumulated in the low-lying areas leaving the area stinking. The Comba residents are now hopeful that the sewage problem will be solved after the old line is replaced with a new one.
