PANJIM: All India Congress Committee (AICC) Goa Election Observer P Chidambaram on Tuesday said the present effort is to get the party battle ready in all 40 assembly constituencies.
Responding to the question from media persons on pre-poll alliance, Chidambaram said, “Whenever a decision is taken you (media) will be told about the decision,”
“As I have said earlier our present efforts is to get the party battle ready in all the 40 constituencies and we are going about it in a systematic manner,” he added.
“Whenever a discussion begins or the discussion ends, you will be told,” the former Union Minister said.
Chidambaram, who is in Goa along with AICC Goa desk in-charge Dinesh Gundu Rao, has been holding series of meetings with the workers at the block level.
Sources said most blocks are of the view that Congress should contest elections alone.
“The response that our AICC leaders are getting from the block workers is that we should go alone for the polls. The workers are in no mood to forge an alliance as they fear betrayal,” sources said.
During the block committee meetings in Benaulim and Siolim on Monday, the workers demanded that Congress should contest in all 40 constituencies.
The Congress, which is currently left with only four MLAs, has so far held no talks with any regional parties over alliance.
Meanwhile, Chidambaram refused to comment on the entry of All India Trinamool Congress into State politics.
