President arrives today, will address GU convocation

PANJIM: President Ram Nath Kovind will address Goa University’s annual convocation on Saturday during his two-day visit to the State.

PANJIM: President Ram Nath Kovind will address Goa University’s annual convocation on Saturday during his two-day visit to the State. 
Department of Information & Publicity had stated that he will arrive in Goa at around 11am after which he will attend the GU convocation, which is scheduled to be held at Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Stadium wherein 379 meritorious students will receive gold medals, prizes and scholarships. 
GU has proposed to confer the President with a LLD Degree at the function that will also be attended by GU Chancellor and Goa Governor Mridula Sinha and Vice Chancellor Varun Sahni. Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar will be a special guest and award the Swachchatam Mahavidyalaya Samman to the cleanest college for the last academic year.
The State has also planned a civic reception at NIO auditorium at 5pm as this is President Kovind’s first visit to Goa after assuming the presidency. The President is also expected to meet the Secretaries at Raj Bhavan at around 7.30pm. 
On the following day, a tree plantation event has been scheduled at Raj Bhavan at 11am followed by visit to Old Goa Churches and Mangueshi Temple at 11.30 am and 12.15pm respectively. He is expected to fly back to Delhi at around 1.45pm.
