MARGAO: Peter Agnelo Fernandes, president of the All Bakers and Confectionary Association and the former president of the All Goa Bakers Association was laid to rest on Saturday.

The funeral rites took place at St John De Baptist Church, Benaulim.

Tributes were pouring in for the proprietor of the Dalima Bakery, Chris Chocolates and Dalima Institute of Bakery and Cookery, especially from the members of the two bakers’ association he was such a strong part of.

Fernandes was known for advocating the cause of bakers and highlighting the plight suffered by bakers across Goa. He was also the one who pushed for a hike in the price of paos.

“Goa lost another giant with the death of legendary baker and a true Niz Goenkar Peter Fernandes,” said Marius Fernandes, who organises various types of traditional festivals across the State.

“In 2015, with the late Peter Fernandes from Colva, we organised the iconic first-ever Poderachem Fest in Socorro. He assisted many newcomers who are chefs today and his dream was to have us organise a similar fest celebrating the breads of Goa in his beloved Salcete. He was a doer and a true professional,” Fernandes said.
