PANJIM: In a proud moment for Goa, 28-year-old Sadayo Melekar from Shel Malavali village of Valpoi has been selected for Presidential Award. He is apparently the first Goan to be selected for the award in Electrician trade.
Malekar, who was once associated with Sesa Mining firm, was rendered jobless following mining ban imposed in 2012.
Melekar stood first in 55th All India skill competition for Craftmen, in Electrician Trade, which was held in July in Chennai, under the craftsmen training scheme.
After graduating in commerce, Melekar secured a job in Sesa mining company. But after mining ban, he took admission in ITI in Electrician Trade from Farmagudi Government Industrial Training Institute, in 2016.
“I was informed by my Farmagudi ITI Principal that I have won the Presidential Award,” he said.
Meanwhile, Leader of Opposition Diagmbar Kamat, congratulating Melekar, has urged Health Minister and Valpoi MLA Vishwajit Rane to felicitate him with a cash reward from government and also provide all assistance in his future endeavours. “These achievers deserve support from Government,” he tweeted.
