PANJIM: National Democratic Alliance’s (NDA) Presidential candidate Droupadi Murmu will meet MLAs and MPs of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Goa on Thursday as part of her election campaign.
BJP State president Sadanand Tanavade said that Murmu will arrive in the State on Thursday.
“She will meet MLAs and MPs of the BJP and its supporting parties seeking their support for her candidature,” he said.
The Presidential Election is scheduled on July 18. The BJP has 20 MLAs in the 40-member House. Out of the two Lok Sabha constituencies in Goa, BJP holds the North Goa seat. The saffron party has one MP from the coastal state in Rajya Sabha.
Sources said that Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party’s (MGP) two MLAs, and three Independents will support Murmu’s candidature.
Meanwhile, the ballot box and other polling material for the election were brought to Goa by Joint Chief Election Officer and Nodal Officer and the same has been kept in strong room at the Goa Legislative Assembly Complex.
“The Election Commission is mandated to ensure that the election to the office of the President of India, must be a free and fair,” reads a statement by the Dir. of Info and Publicity.
