PONDA: MGP President Deepak Dhavalikar, on Thursday, said that due to diversion of Mhadei water by Karnataka, six talukas of Goa will face water shortage leading to desert like situation. So in order to save Mhadei river water diversion, Goans should unite and agitate on the issue so as to protect environment and agriculture.
He was speaking at Marcel to create awareness on Mhadei water diversion and its effects on Goa. Environmentalist Madu Gaonkar and many locals were present.
“Mhadei is Goa’s lifeline and considering the threat to Mhadei by Karnataka, Goans should unite so as to prevent Karnataka doing injustice to Goans by diverting Mhadei water,” said Marcaim MLA Sudin Dhavalikar.
“When BJP government is ruling Goa, Karnataka and at the Centre, there should not be any problem for them to sort out Mhadei diversion issue,” Sudin added.
He said government is not serious on the issue. “What is the need for Goa government to go to Supreme Court on Mhadei water diversion,” he questioned.
