PANJIM, SEPT 22
The Bombay High Court at Goa will take up M V River Princess case for final hearing on Thursday.
The Division Bench of Justices D G Karnik and F M Reis hearing the petition filed by River Princess Hatao Manch today decided after Salgaonkar Mining Industries Private Limited turned down government’s proposal to deposit Rs 10 crore for the removal of the vessel.
SMIPL on Monday had told the Court that it cannot accept fresh modifications in the terms and conditions asking the company to hike the bank guarantee from Rs 1 crore to Rs 10 crore. The company was also asked to deposit the money from the scraps of the vessel to the court till the entire vessel is cut and re-floated.
SMIPL advocate Mahesh Sonak had pointed out that the scrap value of the ship is yet to be determined even as AG Subodh Kantak said the government was negotiating terms and conditions for removing the vessel with successful bidders and sought time to finalise the tender.
The High Court on September 8 had directed the Government to commence the work within two months and had asked to complete the same before the onset of next monsoon season.
