Priority is to remove inert at Sonsoddo before rains, says MMC chief

MARGAO: Newly elected Margao Municipal Council Chairperson Lyndon Pereira has prioritised to resolve the Sonsoddo issue which has been restricted only to tackling the heaps of inert gathered there.

Following the undergoing process of clearing the garbage dump, Lyndon said around 1,000 truckloads of inert has been collected at Sonsoddo since the process of clearing the garbage has been undertaken and added that this inert needs to be removed from there before the onset of monsoons.

“My priority is to remove this inert which otherwise it will cover the entire area in the monsoons and I shall be held responsible for it,” he said adding that the inert will be dumped at some other place where filling is required.

It may be recalled that two years back when a similar exercise was undertaken at Sonsoddo, the collected inert was dumped in the area near KTC bus stand which was levelled and today is being used as parking space for buses.

The Sonsoddo garbage dump clearing is now undertaken by the Solid Waste Management Corporation and the municipality has nothing to do with it. Currently, five screens are being used to segregate the dump yard and it is expected to clear the entire dump yard within three months after the monsoons are over.
