PANJIM: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Goa is in the final stages of its investigation into the alleged Rs 1 crore scam in the purchase of cement bags for the construction of a new apron at Dabolim airport.
“Investigation is in the final stages. We have recorded statements of all those concerned, during the investigation so far,” CBI Superintendent Prem Kumar told Herald.
The agency is investigating the scam against a few officials of Airports Authority of India (AAI) and contractor B R Arora for corruption.
CBI officials say they have gathered enough evidence to nail the accused in the court of law.
CBI had initiated a suo moto investigation into the case after a tip off. The investigation revealed that Arora showed more cement bags than actually purchased for the construction. In fact, the history-sheeter never used these number of cement bags which he showed in the government records.
Arora has been involved in a similar case for constructing sub-standard runways at Karipur International airport at Kozhikode in north Kerala and Lucknow. He has also been accused of preparing false invoices and criminal conspiracy.
Another Goa CBI official said that a charge sheet in the Dabolim apron construction case will be filed after a sanction from higher-ups in Delhi headquarters is obtained, as is the procedure.
